From there to Missoula, MT via the 200 and then down the 93 to Nampa, ID via the 75, 20 and I84. The next destination was Mitchell, OR via the 26 to see the John Day Fossil Beds and the Painted Hills. What can we say but what a wonderful world our God has created!
Still heading south we visited Bend, Crater Lake (what blue, blue water) and Klamath Falls, OR.
Now traveling south/west on the 199 we finally entered Sunny California and Crescent City was the farthest south we traveled on this trip. The coast was refreshingly cool compared to inland. We had not seen the Pacific Ocean for some time and and the fog gave us a very limited view on our first day.
Far too soon we needed to head north along the 101 for our return trip. Our first night was in Lincoln City, Or. The next morning we continued our homeward journey through Tigard, on #18 and at Portland, OR we took the I5 to past Seattle and Bellingham, WA and to the Aldergrove Border Crossing via 539 to Abbotsford, BC.
Southern BC has always been one of my favourites and we had lunch in Osoyos where we past through on our honeymoon almost 39 years go! We traveled hwy 1 to Hope, where we took the 3 into Alberta and on to Calgary via the 22, ( I always enjoy the Cowboy Trail) 7 and 2. Here we just barely missed a severe rain and hail storm.
Still pointed north we met our son Tim for coffee and a good visit in Red Deer. And with one more day of heading north we arrived at home safe and sound after 7,342 k's of trouble free driving!
Using Trip Advisor and the reviews posted there we managed to stay at clean and comfortable motels for a very reasonable price. Restaurants were also very good with tastety meals and great service! We enjoyed numerous picnics and many walks throughout our vacation.
What a blessing to have the freedom to fulfill one more dream and to see so much of our wonderful world! Thank you, Lord, for good health and safety and protection!
